The All Progressives Congress (APC) Abia State chapter has lambasted the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) for imposing five hundred thousand naira (N500,000) and one hundred thousand naira (N100,000) on local government chairmanship and councillorship aspirants respectively.
Addressing party faithful in Umuomainta, Nbawsi in Isiala Ngwa North LGA, on Saturday, 10 October, the state party chairman, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa said “APC opposes N500,000.00 for LGA form by ABSIEC and will go to every length to fight for its right”.
The APC Chairman noted that the Prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa-led ABSIEC was behaving as a revenue delivery agency for Abia State government, instead of concentrating on its constitutionally provided duties of conducting free, credible and fair elections in the state.
He used the opportunity to call on President Mohammadu Buhari to pay a special attention to the grievances of some members of the APC in Abia and and other states, with a view of calming their frayed nerves, which he said, would make the party stronger.
Nwankpa also reiterated APC’s resolve to take over Abia Government House in 2023, assuring members that the party was going to be transparent in conducting its primaries, noting that there would be no room for imposition of candidates on members.
“The sensitization is to build your conscience on what it should be. Abia is not what it should be. We are talking about fair, proper and effective management of Abia resources”, he pointed out.
