A group of women comprising of leaders and secretaries of communities in Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State have raised alarm over rising insecurity in their clan, calling for end to the ugly trend.

The women registered their complaint on Tuesday, October 13 at the palace of Eze Cyril Ogbenna, the traditional ruler of Uzi-Amizi autonomous community , Olokoro Umuahia when they took their save our soul message to him, calling for his support to end the phenomenon.

Speaking under anonymity to avoid being attacked , the concerned women highlighted the problems tormenting their clan most recently to include, constant rape women and girls, child trafficking, cultism, daylight robbery, theft, burglary, girl child pregnancy, abortion, banditry, diabolism, among other ugly trends, lamenting that such issues were tackled by ‘Udo Obodo’ women group in Olokoro before they were allegedly sabotaged by the powers- that -be.

Their address partly read;

“This time, it is not about Olokoro Clan Women Association or Udo Obodo, but Olokoro women in general. We are not against politics, but we detest using it to cause division in Olokoro clan. We need peace and progress in our clan. Our market which now has record of diabolic cases must be sanitized. When Udo Obodo women were in full swing, these ills did not exist in Olokoro, because the fear of Udo Obodo women then, was the beginning of wisdom”.

The Olokoro women said they visited the Uzi-Amizi traditional ruler to receive his blessings being a the patron of Ahiaukwu Olokoro market, informing him that soon, Olokoro would be better.

Receiving the women in his palace, Eze Cyril Ogbenna praised them for their patriotism and courage in restoring sanity in Olokoro land , but solicited the sincerity of other traditional rulers in fighting the scourge.

According to Eze Ogbenna : “We, the traditional rulers are not helping matters. We allowed titles, politics and selfishness to envelope us. You hardly hear of any atrocious act in Olokoro clan during the reign of Eze JJ Ogbulafor, but the reverse is the case now. So, I am in full support of the women’s attempt to restore sanity in Olokoro”.
