…As Nwagba, Ikpeazu, Abaribe go to battle for votes

If there is any Senatorial District that should raise serious concerns in the 2023 general elections, it should be Abia South where it promises to be a clash of the titans.

With her emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, the 2019 Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate, and Political Amazon of Ngwaland, Hon. Dame Blessing Nwagba will be clashing with third-term Senator, Enyinnaya Abaribe of APGA and Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, who holds the PDP ticket.

While Dame Blessing Nwagba is from Osusu Aba, in Aba North Local Government Area, her opponents, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu is from Umuobiakwa in Obingwa Local Government Area and Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe is from Umuekwensu in the same Obingwa.

Nwagba, a former Member of the Abia State House of Assembly on Saturday won the APC Senatorial ticket for Abia South Senatorial District.

She expressed gratitude to the delegates and leaders of the party for finding her worthy to fly the APC flag in the election.

She promised to prioritize youth and women empowerment if she is elected to the senate in 2023.

Asked whether she is intimidated by the quality of the other candidates from other political parties in the main election, the former lawmaker said she is prepared to defeat her rivals

Before the declaration of results, Nwagba’s rival, Dr kasarachi Enyinnaya, withdrew from the race, stressing that in all, the party remains supreme.

He said that he bowed to the advice of the state APC leaders to withdraw from the race and thanked the party for the peaceful manner the primaries were conducted.

After declaring Nwagba the winner following Enyinnaya’s withdrawal, the Returning Officer, Brigadier General Victor Nnorom reaffirmed Enyinnaya’s withdrawal and commended everyone for maintaining peace.

Speaking at the venue of the election, at the Aba Recreation Club, described the process as transparent and commended the delegates for conducting themselves well.

Also, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, won the senatorial ticket of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), for the Abia South Senatorial District.

Abaribe who dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), earlier in the week after pulling from the governorship race, was elected APGA senatorial flag bearer unopposed.

The Returning Officer, Chief Lucky Erondu, announced Abaribe’s emergence amid thunderous ovation by a crowd of supporters, delegates and party faithful.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Abaribe thanked the delegates for reposing confidence in him and promised not to disappoint his constituents.

Abaribe vowed to sustain his fight for the enthronement of democracy, equity and justice.

He said he would help to return Abia State to APGA for total liberation from godfatherism and despondency.

Recall that Ikpeazu had also picked the PDP ticket during his party’s primaries and as it stands now, it promises to be a huge battle between the trio who are well known with mammoth supporters.
