Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has released the sum of three billion, two hundred million naira for the payment of salaries of workers and settlement of pensioners in the State.
This development was made known to newsmen in Umuahia by the Commissioner for Information, Barr Eze Chikamnayo,
He noted that the payment commenced on Thursday and promised that the outcome of government’s verification exercise in the local government system in the State, would soon be made public.
He disclosed that workers in Abia State Health Management Board (HMB) would receive N828m, while the Secondary School Management Board would receive N983m even as the Commissioner said that the sum of N520 million naira would be paid to the senior citizens, the pensioners in Abia.
Also, Abia State College of Education (Technical), Arochukwu was given a twelve months subvention, Abia State Polytechnic, Aba got four months subvention, Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba received two month’s subvention while Abia State University, Uturu was given three month’s subvention.
According to the Information Commissioner, Abia State Abia State College of Health technology received five month’s subvention and a grant of N200 million to facilitate the movement of the institution to her permanent site.
The Commissioner, flanked by the Commissioner for documentation and communications, Mr. Ugochukwu Emezuo and the Chief Press Secretary to Abia State Governor, Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, declared that Abia State government is not owing any civil servant and warned heads of parastatals and agencies against giving employments to people without government approval.
He further directed the management of the affected parastatals to immediately comply with the directive and immediately begin the payments of their workers without delay.
