More revelations have continued at the ongoing Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police brutality, extra-Judicial killings in Abia State as a student Miss Obianuju Chinaka, has told the panel how some police officers shot and killed her father, Mr. Chinaka Ahamefula, on 21st October in cold blood and refused to release his remains, after the dastardly act.
She therefore asked the panel to order the police to pay N100 million over the death of the family’s bread winner.
Miss Chinaka, who the allegation while testifying before panel, said that her father left home for Aba on October, 17th 2020,to visit his friend Mr. Ikoro Agama that was organising a wake keep for his (Agama’s) late mother.
She said that after Ikoro Agama, with Ikoro Iheanyi and her father had gone to the market to buy food stuffs for the ceremony, they eventually retired at palm wine drinking joint relax.
After a while, his friends left him there and went home to prepare the meal.
Immediately his friends left the scene, there were gun shots all around Cameroon road, School road and the environs, according to the petitioner.
She said as her father was walking back to his friend’s house, “He was shot at his right leg and right eye by one of the policemen from Cameroon Station. He died instantly”
“The Policemen came with their Hilux Jeep and took the corpse of his slain father and thereafter and deposited him at St. Anthony’s Hospital Mortuary, Aba”.
The petitioner in her statement of claims therefore asked the panel to order the police to pay a compensation of #100 million naira to the family as well as prevail on the police to release the remains of her slain father for burial.
She alleged that DSP Kelis Nwakozor was the police officer that was keeping the mortuary tally of her deceased father.
Chairman of the Panel, Justice Sunday Imo, ordered the immediate release of the remains of late Mr. Chinaka Ahamefula to his family forthwith for burial and the respondent, the Police, will fully off-set the mortuary bill of the deceased.
The matter is adjourned to January 27 for cross-examination and further hearing.
