Members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Abia State council have lambasted the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) for issuing outrageous bills to Abia electricity consumers.

The council took this position at NUJ press Center, Umuahia during its congress held on Thursday.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting the union wondered why the electricity distribution company should be issuing outrageous bills to Abia consumers, even when no light was supplied to them.

The council wondered why the NUJ office in Umuahia should be billed over N30,000 per month for light not consumed, warning that it would sue the electricity company if it maintained the alleged fraudulent practices.

Meanwhile, the council commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his commitment towards the completion of NUJ permanent secretariat in Umuahia, pointing out that the Governor has maintained his status as a patron of the union.

The union equally reacted to the issue of impending flooding in Abia as alerted by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), calling on all responsible agencies to swing into action to save lives and property.

In their remarks during the congress, Comrade John Emejor, Abia NUJ council Chairman, Ezeogo Boniface Okoro, national officer of NUJ, Uche Ndukwe General Manager of Radio Nigeria 103 FM, among other stakeholders commended the men of the pen for their efforts in sustaining Nigeria’s democratic experience.
