Abia inland roads now death traps, says NSE

The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Umuahia branch, has called for immediate repair of some inland roads in Abia State, particularly in housing estates of Umuahia, the state capital.

The society of engineers described most of the affected roads as death traps which have increased the travails of road users.

In an address delivered by its Umuahia branch Chairman, Engr Uzoma Ohia, during a courtesy call on the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Ministry of Works, Engr Sunday Okpara, the engineers called for collaborative efforts between the NSE and the Abia State Ministry of Works towards improving conditions of roads in the state.

They also called for adequate planning and appropriation for the works ministry.

Leaders of the society, further appealed to the Permanent Secretary, to always encourage NSE members in his ministry to attend professional development meetings regularly, even as they congratulated him on his recent appointment as a permanent secretary.

Engr. Ohia further expressed gratitude to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for establishing an engineering desk at Umuahia Capital Development Authority, (UCDA).

Responding, the Permanent Secretary, lauded NSE, Umuahia branch for the visit and admonished them on professionalism.

The Perm Sec harped on the essence of neatness, as the mode of dressing of an engineer could make people to recognize importance of the profession.
