Illegal structures and shanties at Waterside and Enyimba hotel areas of Aba have been demolished by the Abia State Government.
The demolition was carried out by bulldozers and supervised by the chief of staff to Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Dr Anthony Agbazuere, Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbede and the acting transition committee chairman of Aba North, Mrs Joy Iwuchukwu on Saturday.
Speaking about the development, the state government posited that the demolished shanties served as hide out for criminal elements in the state, adding that untold criminal activities were being perpetrated in the slums
Some of the sordid activities, according to Dr Agbazuere, included cocaine trading, dealing in Indian hemp, adding that hoodlums operated from the shanties, there by endangering the security of Abians.
Recall that the state government had in first week of September, 2020 given quit notice to illegal occupants of Enyimba hotel premises, ordering them to vacate.
