Abia Govt alleges plans by group to burn down major markets

Abia State government has alerted it’s citizens of plots by enemies of the state from other states to burn down some major markets in the State and push Abians into tears and sorrows.
The government in a statement signed by Chief John Okiyi Kalu on Friday, October 23, disclosed that some yet to be identified enemies of Ndigbo are planning to burn down major markets in Abia State.
The alarm also charged all hotel owners and their managers to scrutinize every new face checking into their hotels and to report any suspected person(s) to security agents for appropriate action.
The government also charged all chairmen of local government areas to be alive to their responsibility of securing their areas, while also mandating the formation of vigilante groups around markets and streets in the state in order to frustrate the evil plots of enemies of Abia State.
All schools in the state, according to the release are to remain shut, until further notice while markets and shops are now to open only in the day time.
The government however, reduced the curfew period by half, making it 6:pm to 6: am from Sunday, October 25.
The state, government through the release, charged all market committees to mobilize adequate security men to watch over the markets at night.
It would be recalled that a group of hoodlums on Thursday night, burnt down the popular Onions market, along Port Harcourt Road, Aba, destroying goods worth millions of naira in the process.
