The Abia State Government has condemned open grazing of cows in any part of the state.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, last Monday, he condemned the destruction of farmlands belonging to natives of Abia North by cows, directing security agencies to fish out those behind the criminal activities and as well bring the culprits to justice.
The statement reads in part, “Abia State Government has condemned in its entirety, the recent destruction of farmlands by cows grazing openly in violation of extant laws of the State and Nigeria.
Consequently, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has directed security agents in the state to bring to justice all those involved in the criminal activities.
“The State Government also condemned the killing of cows by some unidentified criminals, urging security agencies to go after those involved as such activities were capable of increasing the already tense situation in the area.
“Government has fully activated all relevant components of the state security architecture to ensure the safety of lives and property of law abiding citizens, residents and visitors to the state”, the statement read.
The State Government however, called on all residents of the State to go about their legitimate businesses without any fear of molestation.
