Abia State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Mrs Ukachi Amala has advocated basic computer training for women in the state as a basis for them to benefit from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) “50 Million African Women Speak Project”.

She made this call while playing host to a delegation of the organization led by the Abia State representative, Dr Mrs Grace Okaro who paid her a courtesy visit at the Women Development Centre, Umuahia.

She expressed her happiness about the project, pointing out that it will give the women the opportunity to discover themselves, their talents and showcase their products instead of depending on their husbands and children all the time.

She appealed to the members of the delegation to be steadfast, adding that the assignment is voluntary while also warning against division in the organization.

Earlier in an address, Dr Grace Okaro described ECOWAS “50 Million African Women Speak Project” as specially designed and launched by ECOWAS, in collaboration with the African Development Bank (AfDB) to digitally connect, network and empower women across Africa to meet their information needs.

The Abia State project representative informed the woman affairs Commissioner that the project has been launched formally in Abuja while the state representatives have to take the media launch to the states and local government levels.

Dr Okaro said, “we appeal to you for your support and assistance to ensure that the project succeeds, so that our women benefits maximally from its provisions”
