A four year old boy has been rescued from the hands of his abductors by an angry mob in Nnewi, Anambra State.
Speaking to newsmen, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Haruna Mohammed (CSP), stated in a press statement that a four year old boy was rescued by commercial motorcycle men and taken to Area Command headquarters in Nnewi.
He noted that the child, a pupil of St. Joseph School Otolo Nnewi was returning home from School in company of his siblings when two men on a motorcycle grabbed the child and zoomed off with him.
“Alarm was raised by other children which attracted the attention of some commercial motorcyclists who pursued and eventually caught the suspects and rescued the child at Akamili Community Nnewi.” Haruna Mohammed said.
The PPRO said that before the arrival of police patrol team to the scene, the two suspects have been beaten to stupor by the angry mob but were rescued by the police and taken to the hospital for medical attention.
He said that one of the suspects whose identity is yet unknown was certified dead by a medical doctor while receiving treatment and the second one is still unconscious at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Bala Kuryas (CP) while thanking the public for their courage in rescuing the child also urged them to always exercise restraint by not taking law into their hands whenever they catch suspects.
This according to the CP has become imperative so as to enable the police conduct discreet investigation in order unravel more facts surrounding the incidents including sponsors of the dastardly acts and bring them to justice.
