The National Vice President of Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo, Chief Damian Ogene-Okeke has warned the Federal Government not to use the $23 billion naira Abacha loot to settle the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Chief Ogene-Okeke was reacting on a rumour making the round that the Federal Government was planning to use the Abacha loot to settle the demands of the striking Nigeria lecturers.
He said the money was earmarked by the government for construction and rehabilitation of bridges and roads across the six geo-political zones of the country and not ASUU strike.
“How can the Federal Government make use of the Abacha loot that has reportedly earmarked for construction and rehabilitation of bridges and roads across the country for ASUU settlement? It is not acceptable to Nigerians. The FG should find other means of resolving the disagreement, because Nigeria youths are running out of patience.” He also appealed to ASUU to consider the plight of Nigerian students by considering calling up the strike.
