Top Igbo leaders in the Southeast region have intensified their plot for a possible consensus regarding the clamour for 2023 presidency of Igbo extraction.

News Echo gathered yesterday that part of the strategy was the reason for which some respected leaders from the zone embarked on consultation to Igbo in a closed door meeting.

For now, those who are at the front line of this possible negotiation are the Obi of Onitsha, HRM Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, Elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu and the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo.

Other issues said to be on the table for the Igbo leaders to dissect with the Igbo governors were the issue of insecurity, herdsmen farmers’ clashes, among other burning issues.

Their first point of call was the visit to the Imo state governor, Hope Uzodimma, at the government House, where they had a closed door session and deliberated on number of issues relating to the interest of the Igbo people in and around the Nigeria project.

They would also be visiting the governors of Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia state. It was also gathered that they could be meeting with some of the Senators as well as former governors from the zone.
The arrangement may not exclude having a special session for Igbo politicians interested in the presidential position as it could offer them an extra ordinary opportunity to sell themselves.

The visit has been a center of discussion regarding the approach to the political season; however some analysts said it came at the right time when the Igbo people need a new political dimension to find their ground in the 2023 Nigeria project to produce an Igbo man as the next president.

However, some have differed from the issue of consensus reasoning that it would not work out but that the two major political parties ought to produce their presidential candidate and allow the Igbo choose their preferred candidate.
