Ahead of the 2023 general elections, a crucial meeting of the Southeast Political Leaders has been slated for March 7, 2021 in Enugu the Enugu State capital.
A source said that the forthcoming summit cuts across political parties as members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), All Progressives Congress (APC) All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and other political parties in the zone are expected to attend.
The source further said that the Conveners of the scheduled meeting included the former Abia State Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu; former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, Ex- Senate President, Anyim Pius Anyim. Also mentioned is the Deputy Chief Whip, House of Representatives, the Rt.Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha.
It was learnt that the scheduled meeting of the political gladiators in the Southeast zone would be a welcome development to the people of the zone.
A chieftain of APGA in Enugu State, Chief Ikenna Okonkwo, said, “The gathering should be one with caution so that our political leaders can resolve this teething problem of whether the Igbo race is still truly in contention in the sharing of the national pudding in the supposed country, Nigeria”.
“We now hear of ground breaking ceremonies for new modern Rail line links in the South East, all because the 2023 Presidential electioneering campaigns are coming closer. Just like the second Niger Bridge, what a well schemed political gimmick to mesmerize the Igbo, he stated.
“This March 7 political Summit would afford our political pundits another golden opportunity to really strategize, harmonise themselves and demonstrate to Nigerians and the World that they have what it takes to lift Nigeria out of the present quagmire come 2023”, he concluded
