Sixteen communities in Ogbaru Local Government Area, that has been ravaged by floods have received relief materials from the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
This is part of the assistance by the Anambra state government to cushion the effect of flood in those areas.
The distribution, took place on Saturday October, 31, at the Council Secretariat, Atani, and was supervised by the chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Flood Relief Committee, Engineer Nnamdi Esimai.
The items were handed over to the president generals, women leaders, youth leaders, Igwe’s representatives and two stakeholders from each of the benefiting communities for their beneficiaries.
However, two settlement communities, Ogbeukwu and Iyiowa were included in the distribution as well as Madonna Mercy Family International, where the sick and the aged are housed and cared for by Reverend Father Collins Ojene at Odekpe.
Madonna Angels Orphanage Home Atani, managed by Sister Augustina Uyanne, with a population of about sixty children, was also included in the distribution, as well as King’s Ambassadors Seminary School, managed by the Ogbaru Anglican Diocese.
Addressing the affected communities, the Transition Committee Chairman, Ogbaru local government area, Honourable Arinzechukwu Awogu, applauded Governor Willie Obiano for being a compassionate, kind hearted leader and a friend of the needy.
Honourable Awogu urged the benefiting communities to target the poorest of the poor among them, stressing that the items are for those who cannot afford food as a result of the flood.
