Photographers in Imo State, under the auspices of Professional Photographers and Videographers Association of Nigeria, Imo State chapter, recently joined their counterparts world over to celebrate the World Photography Day, 2022, during which they bestowed awards on some of their successful and outstanding members.
In his address at the occasion, the Imo State President of the association, Comrade Onyeahialam Chibueze disclosed that the celebration dates back to 1837 and is celebrated annually on 19th August which he said is to appreciate and celebrate the art, craft, science and history of photography.
He disclosed that it was the first time the organization as a group was celebrating the event in Imo State, while appreciating some members who have been carrying the association on their shoulders, including singlehandedly organizing and celebrating World Photography Day for Imo photographers over the years.
The publisher of Newspoint Newspapers, Elder Lambert Ojukwu, who also bagged an award of excellence, delivered a lecture on the theme of the celebration: “Pandemic Lockdown Through the Lens”.
Sensitizing the photographers in Imo State on different ways they can make big money through their profession, he emphasized on eagerness for continuous learning and ability to think outside the box and find a way to collaborate with other professionals, to render profitable services.
He expressed his willingness to partner with the association and its individual members in any way that will bring growth and mutually promote their wellbeing.
Also the Imo State and Government House correspondent Gaxlay Television, Ajibade Awefeso, also bagged an award as the most outstanding Imo based journalist of the year, 2022.
According to the association, the award was in recognition of his immense contribution to the development of the society, growth of photographers and Nigeria at large.
The Public Relations Officer of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Shehu Lemuwa Muhammed delivered the second lecture of the day, which centered on the dangers of drugs and alcohol addiction in the society.
Highpoints of the event was the unveiling of the association’s Logo and flag, as well as induction of Elder Lambert Ojukwu as patron of the association in Imo State.
