As the global community commemorates World AIDS Day, Anambra state Ministry of Health in collaboration with Anambra State AIDS Control Agency, ANSACA , has organized a road walk to sensitize on the need for people to regularly check their HIV status for early detection and treatment to protect selves from AIDS.
News Echo reports that December 1st every year, was mapped out by the World Health Organization to remember those living with HIV/AIDS globally, and to remind the world that the killer disease still exists without cure.
This year’s event has its theme as “Ending Inequalities, Ending AIDS Through Sustainable HIV Financing in Nigeria”.
The road walk, which kicked off from the Anambra Broadcasting Service Cooperate Headquarters in Awka, through Arroma junction, Ekwueme Square, Club Road Okpuno, and terminated at Regina Ceili Junction, was well attended by youths and officials of ANSACA and state ministry of health.
Speaking, the Executive Director ANSACA, Mr. Johnbosco Okeke asked the public not to discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS, saying that the disease is not the end of the world as someone with it can still live long with medications.
On his part, the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for HIV/AIDS Programme, Ministry of Health, Mr. Chijioke Ngaji encouraged people to often go for HIV test for early detection and treatment.
In a separate interviews, the ANSACA Prevention and Treatment Officer, Mr. Chukwuemaka Obi, and the agency’s Cluster Manager for Awka, Dr. Charles Onyegbado reminded people that HIV/AIDS still exists and kills, and as such they should adequately protect themselves
