The Chief Medical Director of the National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Prof. Johnson Obunna has expressed worry over the rising hardship and suffering of Nigerian women especially those living with Vesico-vaginal fistula, VVF.

Obuna made this known while addressing Medical women Association of Nigeria, MWAN, Ebonyi state chapter during a one-day medical outreach to sensitize pregnant women and nursing mothers on the need for cervical cancer screening and how to prepare good food that is healthy for children.

The workshop which took place at the premises of the National Obstetric Fistula Centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, had over hundreds of pregnant women and nursing mothers across the 13 LGAs of the state.
According to him: “I want to thank the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi state chapter because since they came into play, they have been of great help to this hospital in many ways.

“Today, they are offering a free cervical cancer screening to our women in this state. They are also going to teach us how to prepare food that is healthy because healthy food gives healthy life and we thank them for that.
“We thank them for other numerous health talks and health programs, they are going to show us today and in the future. We are grateful that they choose this hospital to be the venue for this program.

Earlier in a remark, the newly installed President of the Medical women Association of Nigeria, Ebonyi state chapter, Dr. Madubueze Ugochukwu said “we organized this medical outreach to offer free cervical cancer screening, blood sugar screening, hypertension screening and many others.

“We want to reach out to women of Ebonyi state to take this opportunity and come to this hospital and get this free cervical cancer screening. Our men should as well come and check their blood pressure. And we have free drugs here to give them.

“We encourage pregnant women and nursing mothers to go to good hospitals, so that they can be seen by qualified medical professionals and not quacks”, she noted.
