Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University College of Medicine (COOUCOM) has inducted 85 medical doctors who had successfully completed their necessary trainings with a charge for them to be dedicated and professional.

Inducting the fresh doctors, at the Histopathology Auditorium, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku-Awka, over the weekend, the Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Professor Greg Nwakoby, urged the newly inducted medical doctors to always observe professionalism in their practices. He also called on the new medical doctors to handle every patient with care and seriousness.

According to him, medical doctors are for those who are called to the profession and not for all comers, noting that if one is called and one observes the rules, one will do well. Nwakoby said that medical doctors are not about making money but serving humanity and saving lives.

“I call on you to render this service selflessly as medical doctors. Your profession is such that you handle human lives. Being a medical doctor is based on divine call and if you are not called, you will be a medical carpenter” he said.
He also expressed confident on the quality of medical doctors being produced by the institution, giving the hi-tech equipment and the quality of staff in the institution.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Dr. Joe Akabuike said that despite the covid 19 pandemic and residents doctors strike, the institution produced quality and sound medical doctors.

According to him, the institution is doing very well and that was the reason most doctors are poached by foreign countries immediately after graduation. He expressed gratitude for the numbers of medical doctors the institution produced and urged them to always display professionalism in their practices.

The provost of the college, Professor Emmanuel Ojiyi said that he can vouch for the quality of medical doctors the institution was releasing to the public. According to him, the quality of medical doctors the college produces are comparable to any doctor anywhere in the world. He said that the institution does not only produce for Nigeria but for the world, noting that he was confident that they will excel wherever they find themselves.
