The Commissioner for Health Anambra State, Dr. Vincent Okpala has called on Nigerians to be health conscious as the Omicron variant of COVID-19 pandemic, bites hard.
Okpala made the call while exchanging views with information officers shortly after a Centenary celebration of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church, Akpo, at Central School Field, on Saturday.
The health expert said, “Omicron variant is taking a toll on Nigerians. Many have fallen ill as a result of it.
“The doctors will not tell one what killed one as they guard against tampering with medical professional ethics.
“The only way out is to get vaccinated. Anambra State Government under the watch of governor Willie Obiano has made it possible for every political ward to have a place for vaccination.
“The vaccines are available at health centres. It does not cost even a dime. Here at Akpo, go to the Health Centre, Uhuala, Akpo, you will get vaccinated. It is safe and effective.
“I have personally taken my required doses and the booster of late. No negative side effects at all.
“It’s benefit is after proper dosage and the booster, even if you happen to contact the variant, it will not grow to threaten life,’’ he assured.
“The stipulated preventive protocols are still in vogue.
“They are washing their hands with soap under running water, putting on face masks, avoiding handshakes, staying away from others within about 2 metres, and avoiding unnecessary gatherings.
