The Imo State commissioner for entrepreneurship and skills acquisition has undergone surgery over his leg that was shot by armed robbers. He was earlier hospitalized at the Federal Medical Centre before being transferred to a private hospital
Panic has pervaded Imo State as the security crises in the state have continued unabated, with armed robbers and kidnappers now having a field day.
Gunmen Sunday evening shot the Imo State commissioner for entrepreneurship and skills acquisition, Iyke Ume, who was among no fewer than four motorists shot by the gunmen.
The incident which happened at Orji, on Owerri- Okigwe road, very close to the Orji Divisional Police Headquarters, brought an abrupt end to commercial activities within the area as people, including those drinking at nearby bars scampered for safety.
According to investigations the commissioner was in the company of the special adviser to the governor on inter party affairs, Domic Uzowuru a native of the area, when the armed robbers sped past him and shot him on his leg and hand.
When contacted by newsmen, the SA, confirmed that the commissioner was shot by the suspected armed robbers.
“I was not shot. The commissioner was shot. My phone and that of the commissioner were snatched. We were coming from a Service of Songs from one of us, Austin Nnawuihe. We were together when the robbers struck. I am fine to the glory of God”, he stated.
The spokesman of Imo State Police command SP, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the incident and said the victims were evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Owerri, by the police.
He said investigations have commenced to arrest the masterminds.
