The actualization of the upgrade of the Federal Medical centre, FMC , to the status of a Teaching Hospital, has been given strong backing by the Minister of state for Health, Senator Dr. Adeleke Mamora, who promised to do the needful as soon as the process has been initiated and the request comes to his table.
Adeleke Mamora stated this in Owerri, on an official visit to commission some completed projects and appraise the on -going construction work at the medical centre on Thursday.

The Minister commended the Medical Director, Board members and chairman for efficiently addressing the crisis that rocked the institution for a period of 36 months and for the mending process which he noted has begun to yield fruit. He noted that the numerous ongoing and completed projects were eloquent testimony of the dedication, commitment and effective prudent management of the Medical Director, Dr. Kingsley Achigbu.

He further assured that the challenges confronting the institution will be formally addressed with the view of permanently bringing resolution to them, including such problems as outsourcing services, reimbursement of funds spent on Covid 19 emergency, lack of oxygen plant, granting waiver from Office of Head of Service of Federation for immediate employment of medical staff, and the request for the upgrade to status of Teaching Hospital.

The Chief Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Dr. Kingsley Achigbu, appreciated the Minister’s appointment and opined that his tenure was the most impactful in the health sector.
Achigbu appreciated Governor Hope Uzodimma’s support to the institution, maintaining that it was an effective and productive partnership.
