The Anambra State Government has received a donation of medical mobile clinic, from Mobile Telecommunications Network (MTN).
MTN, a leading network telephone provider in Nigeria donated the clinic to the Anambra State Government as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project.
The handover which was held at the Government House, Awka attracted officials of Government as well as the staff of the company.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, who received the donation, thanked the company for assisting the State Government in the health sector.
“I will like to express our profound gratitude to MTN for supporting Government effort in the healthcare provision, especially with regards to reaching the difficult-to-reach parts of the state.’’
Chukwulobelu noted that the achievements of Gov. Willie Obiano in the health sector over the years had been well-documented in terms of what is done in the primary healthcare centres.
He urged them to extend their CSR beyond health sector and help the state in the areas of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
“Anambra is a major consumer of your product and we are expecting that more of the CSR from the company will come, not just to the health but in other areas. “It will be nice to explore how you can help our people in learning ICT and telephone technologies,’’ he said.
Senior Manager, Sales and Trade Development, Core East of the company, Mr. Emmanuel Okereke, said the mobile medical intervention scheme was designed to provide primary healthcare services.
“Our aim is to contribute to Government’s efforts at improving access to primary healthcare in underserved communities in Nigeria.
“We are to offer the following services: medical screening, diagnosis and consultations, treatment and provision of drugs, referrals and health-awareness creation,’’ he said.
Okereke noted that the scope of the project to be implemented covered the execution of medical outreaches for 12 months in communities and markets.
Earlier, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Vincent Okpala, said that the state was happy to partner with the company and informed that the mobile clinic would operate based on demand, need and planning.
