Last Saturday’s elections across Imo state saw Imo citizens who were gathered in their numbers willing to perform their civic responsibility.
Newsecho gathered that most polling units in the State commenced accreditation and voting as early as 9am whereas in some places voting could not start till 11am or later
When Newsecho visited Some polling units, voters were already at the booths waiting patiently for INEC officials to arrive.
It was discovered that most of the voters were just voting for the first as some were been directed on how to thumb print and fold the ballot papers. Properly to avoid void votes.
Speaking to some of the voters in Owerri Metropolis who spoke to our correspondent said they were satisfied with the voting process but expressed dismay over the late arrival of INEC officials.
In some places people who came to vote were redirected to another polling unit where they ought to vote and not where they felt.
In Orji ward 2, polling unit 33, the INEC officials arrived about 11.07 as the voters were already waiting for their arrival, they commenced accreditation immediately and people conducted themselves peacefully.
Though some of the polling units did not witness any presence of security operatives but they were seen patroling in their numbers to ensure a hitch free election.
At a particular polling unit, some of the voters complained of the difficulty of some INEC officials not been conversant with the operation of the BVAS and were doing trial and error.
In some quarters also it was observed that the number of voters in a particular polling unit overwhelm the few INEC officials assigned to the area.
Also patriotic citizens who cast their votes waited patiently to get the final results from their polling unit.
Another observation was the issue of party logo, some of the voters who wanted to vote for Labour party were confused as the logo of Labour party didnt bear the name of the party, which made some people confused on not knowing what to do.
Meanwhile due to the rains on Saturday and late commencement of voting process in some quarters on Saturday, INEC extended voting to Sunday to enable those who could not vote on Saturday to exercise their franchise.
As of the time of filling this report, a declaration was made by the Electoral officer in Ideator North, pronouncing the CUPP spokesman and the PDP flagbearer for Ideator North Federal constituency Ikenga Ugochinyere IKegwuonu as the Winner for the Federal House of Representatives for the constituency defeating the Incumbent Paschal Obi.
Meanwhile, INEC is still collating results across the state for the presidential and National Assembly elections.
