Robbers operating in Tricycle (Keke Napep) on Monday evening, struck at Point of Sale (PoS) depot at number 1 Okwulehie Street in Umuahia, Abia State, robbing the dealers of large sums of money and other valuables.
The robbery at Okwulehie Street took place at about 5:30 pm a few hours after another group of robbers had robbed an Owerri-born business mogul who deals on animal feeds distribution at Azikiwe road Umuahia.
An eye witness at the Okwulehie Street robbery, who identified herself as Ugo said the robbers disguised as genuine customers and requested to withdraw fifty thousand naira from the PoS operators, but after a few seconds, pulled a gun and snatched a bag containing huge amount of money from their victim, before firing into the air.
She added that the robbers later fled in a tricycle, causing a stampede around the Okwulehie and Isigate areas of Umuahia with their sporadic shootings.
Also, the largest animal feed distribution centre in Umuahia, owned by an Owerri-born business man, on Monday, October 26 fell victim to a group of armed robbers who robbed the shop of unspecified amount of money.
The robbery which took place at about 3:30pm, caused tensions around the Azikiwe road, one of the busiest streets in Umuahia.
It would be recalled that Abia State Government had reduced the hours of the curfew it imposed on Umuahia and Aba, allowing residents to operate from 8:am to 5:pm daily, while curfew took place from 5:pm to 8:am until further notice.
