Resident has expressed shock over the assassination of a top Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) officer popularly known as Shaba, at a bar in Nkwo Market, Igbo Ukwu, Aguata LGA of Anambra State.
News Echo reports that the assailant were said to have driven to a stop at the bar, highlighted the vehicle in commando style and opened fire on the two orderlies of the vigilante boss manning the entrance of the bar before proceeding to shoot dead the AVG head inside.
While some claim that the AVG Boss was part of the Ebubeagu personnel terrorising communities in the Southeast, some others claim that the killing was carried out by members of a kidnapping ring whose leader was busted by Shaba’s team some time ago.
Confirming the incident, the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said a deliberate operation has been set in place to apprehend the attackers, adding that surveillance has been intensified within the area.
“There is a deliberate operation ongoing now aimed at apprehending the attackers. Meanwhile, patrols have been intensified within Aguata and its environs. Further development shall be communicated please,” he added.
