A trigger happy police officer, yesterday, shot a tricycle (keke) rider in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The incident happened at the Rukpokwu/Rumuodumanya axis of the L.G.A.
An eye witness said the victim was shot by the police officer because he refused to part with a bribe of N100, thereby infuriating the cop.
“The police officer stopped the keke rider and requested for a bribe of N100. The man refused and this infuriated the police officer who opened fire on him at a close range,” the witness stated.
Angered by the incident, the youths of the area went violent and set burn fire on the road, blocking the roads leading to the area.
Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nnmadi Omoni confirmed the story.
He said the police officer has been disarmed and arrested.
