Special anti-kidnapping unit of Abia State Police Command led by Superintendent Oracle Emeka has smashed gangs of bandits and kidnappers in Osisioma LGA of Abia State and in boundary community of Obigbo.
During the operation at kidnappers’ hideout in Osisioma, 4 suspected kidnappers were gunned down during an exchange of fire between the gang and the anti-kidnapping team while two female kidnap victims were set free by the Police special unit.
In a statement by the anti-kidnapping unit made available to newsmen, the Police stated that the operation was carried out in line with the mandate of Police Commissioner, Mustapha Mohamed Bala, who is out to rid Abia of criminal elements.
The statement which stated that the operation was achieved through intelligence gathering, said that no member of the Police special team was hurt during the operation.
According to the statement, two female kidnap victims who were kept in solitary confinement at Obigbo by their abductors, were rescued unhurt while 1 AK 47 rifle, 1 Pump Action , two vehicles and different unfixed number plates were recovered from the kidnappers’ base.
” At the police arrival into the kidnappers’ hideout, they (kidnappers) were holding AK47 and Pump Action rifles but were overpowered. Two kidnapped female victims were rescued unhurt. As a result of the exchange of gunfire, the kidnappers could not stand superior power of the Police.”
The statement said that the corpses of the dead bandits have been deposited in a mortuary while efforts are on to arrest other accomplices in the crime.
The Police anti-kidnapping team also said it nabbed 3 other notorious armed robbers, adding that one of the arrested robbers during interrogation allegedly confessed being a member another kidnapping gang whose members are already in police net.
