Police arraign 40-year-old man for stealing hotel properties

A 46-year-old man, Aremu Olayinka, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing hotel property.

The accused was said to have stolen three Air Conditioners, valued N210,000, eighteen units of ceiling fans valued at N90,000; Deep Freezer valued at N360,000; one generator valued at N150,000; three Pumping Machines valued at N60,000 and other items total valued N1,000,000, all properties of one Philip Ikechukwu.

Police prosecutor, Abdullahi Musa told the court that the accused committed the offence between February 2019 and March 2020 at Maskon International Hotel, Ajekunle area in Osogbo.

He stated that the offence committed was contrary to Section 383 and punishable under section 380(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol ll Law of Osun State 2002.

The accused person, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges levelled against him.

Defence Counsel, Sulaiman Akano prayed the court to grant his client bail in a most liberal term.

He promised that his client would provide a reliable surety and not jump bail if granted.

In his ruling, Magistrate Abayomi Ajala granted the accused person bail in the sum of N1 million with one surety in like sum.

He, thereby, adjourned the case till December 8, for hearing.
