A young man simply identified as Mr. Sabatine Nwabueze on Monday lost his life by a stray bullet following the sporadic gun shooting by men of the underworld at Ekwulobia/Isuofia road, in Aguata local government area of Anambra state.
The armed gunmen also abducted two others who came to buy fuel but in a swift response from the operatives of the Nigerian police made them abandon the victims and flee.
Confirming the report, Anambra police spokesman, Dsp Ikenga Tochukwu in a press statement said “the Anambra State Police Command Operatives on 28/2/2022 at about 9pm rescue abducted victim while responding to a distress call along Ekwulobia/Isuofia road, Aguata LGA. The Police Operatives also recovered a white Toyota Hilux Truck and Ash Lexus 330 SUV”.
“Preliminary information revealed that the miscreants started shooting sporadically on entering cherry fuel station along Ekwulobia/Isuofia road. As a result of the shootings, one man who was later identified as Mr. Sabatine Nwabueze was fatally hit by the bullet of the hoodlums and died in his car. The Operatives recovered the body and deposited it to the mortuary. The gunmen also abducted 2 persons who came to buy fuel as of the time of the incident”.
The statement further noted that “On the receipt of the information the CP immediately ordered the tactical teams of the command comprising of Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Forces and other units to compliment the existing security deployment in the area. During a hot chase by the police, the hoodlums abandon the abducted victim and flee”.
Meanwhile, calm has since returned in the area and police operatives have also intensify patrol within the area and in the state.
