Mob apprehend robbers in Umuahia, burn keke NAPEP

A group of armed robbers who specialize in robbing unsuspecting passengers at Okpara square area of Umuahia has been busted in the Abia capital.

Their operational vehicle was also set ablaze by the mob while two of the three man-led robbers were beaten to pulp.

The robbers who snatched a bag containing a huge sum of money from its owner by 7pm on Saturday, were given a hot chase by the residents until the robbers were eventually caught.

The owner of the bag it was learnt, withdrew the money from a bank ATM .

An eye witness , Kenechukwu Osoagba narrated that the owner of the snatched bag raised an alarm that his bag had been snatched by the criminals, leading to a manhunt for them.

“They were eventually apprehended in front of Heritage bank where the bank of money was recovered from them and handed back to its owner.
Also, the Keke NAPEP they used was seized from them and burnt.”

The eye witness added that the mob had gathered some disused tyres and petrol to set the robbers ablaze before the arrival of a Police patrol team which whisked away on their Hilux van.

Okpara square and Bank road sections of Umuahia have been hot zones of armed robbery, bag snatching, phone snatching and other criminal activities.
