The Rivers State House of Assembly, has hinted that a Bill seeking to criminalize the actions of artisanal crude oil refiners was underway
This position was made public by the speaker of house of assembly, IKUIYI OWAJI IBANI during plenary where a motion by the Leader of the house, Martins AMAEWHULE was moved condemning the activities of artisanal refiners and their sponsors in the state.
AMAEWHULE also prayed the house to condemn the proliferation of illegal bunkering sites, refiners and their collaborators.
The speaker of the house, IKUIYI OWAJI-IBANI, who disclosed that the motion is of urgent public importance also condemned people who choose to play politics with environmental situation in the state.
OWAJI-IBANI also disclosed that the house would move to the state Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Nigeria Army and Navy, to demand that they improve on their strategies to arrest the oil bunkers
