The traditional prime minister of Ibeku land, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Uche Akwukwuegbu and his son who arrived from the United States of America have allegedly been robbed of cash and various personal belongings in the heart of the Abia State capital by suspected hoodlums.
Akwukwuegbu, who is a popular business man and frontline politician while narrating his ordeal to newsmen over the weekend in Umuahia said he had gone to Owerri, Imo State to receive his son, who was returning to Nigeria from the United States of America when the suspected hoodlums struck.

According to him, a tricycle popularly known as Keke driver recklessly overtook his car before Army checkpoint at Umuokpara as he drove in his car with his two sons, one from America and another based in Nigeria, and while trying to avoid the reckless Keke, his car allegedly nearly ran into the bush.
Chief Akwukwuegbu continued that “I stopped to know what it was all about and people trooped out from the bush and started beating me. Nothing happened to the Keke driver. However, I decided to see if there was need to assist him.”I did not know that the driver was used as a trap to get me.

It was all stage-managed. They started beating me and asked me to bring money and wanted to snatch my car key.”
The victim added that he rushed into his car and zoomed off to report the matter to the nearest Police station but the hoodlums, joined by some motorcyclists ran after him, and allegedly blocked him at Mission Hill and allegedly robbed him of N200, 000 and $15,000 as well as other items inside the bag of his US returnee-son, stealing a Movedo wristwatch and other valuables opposite Okigwe park.

He further stated that after the ugly incident, he reported to the Police Command Umuahia that led to alleged arrest of some suspects.
When contacted by text messages for confirmation, the Police Public Relations Officer of Abia State Command, Mr. Geoffrey Ogbonna did not respond.
