The Imo state police command has recorded a fresh attack on its divisional police station at Isu local government area of the state.
The attack took place on Sunday as the gunmen threw petrol bomb and Improvised explosive device IED at the station in an attempt to raze the place, at the process part of the building was affected and some vehicles burnt.
According to a release by the police through its public relations Officer, CPP Mike Abattam disclosed that the hoodlums came with two Sienna buses and a Toyota Camry car with several motorcycles.
He disclosed that the police in a bid to foil the attack engaged them in a gun duel, with the extent of resistance from the Isu police officers on ground they escaped and were given a hot chase as they scampered for safety with bullet wounds.
According to police report, on the process of raiding their hideouts, 17 people comprising male and female were arrested and are undergoing interrogation.
The police also recovered about 12 motorcycles and vehicles suspected to have been used by the gunmen in the operation.
Unfortunately two police officers lost their lives and another sustained an injury.
The commissioner for police, CP Rabiu Hussiani regretted the unfortunate incident and condoled with the families of the deceased officers while commending men of the police for their gallantry in arresting the situation.
He also seized the opportunity to inform the general public to always report criminal activities in their community and alert the police in sighting anyone treating bullet wounds.
He further assured of the commitment of the state police to fighting crime and all form of criminality to the uttermost.
