Gangs of armed men Thursday morning targeted Nnewi South Local Government Area in Anambra State.
The secretariat was set on fire. It is yet to be ascertained if anyone died or was injured.
Anambra State Police Command said “It is a suspected case of arson”. According to an eyewitness it said it was an unknown gunmen that entered the premises and set the secretariat ablaze without any reason. News Echo correspondent also gathered during the investigation that a lot of documents were damaged and it was in a case of not respecting the order of the IPOB instruction sit at home.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga told reporters that the information “is still sketchy”.
The spokesman added that more operatives had been deployed to the area and Fire Service was contacted. The burning is suspected to have been carried out by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In January, gunmen stormed a burial ceremony in Ezinifitte, Nnewi South LGA. The attack left some people dead.
