Gunmen abduct  varsity don in Anambra

A university lecturer and academic guru, Professor Silvia Okonkwo of Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, along Enugwu-Agidi/Nawgu road in Njikaoka local government area of Anambra State.

News Echo gathered that the professor, an indigene of Uruokwe village, Enugwu-Ukwu was returning from a senate meeting from the school when she was attacked and taken to unknown destination.

A statement signed by president general of Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), Hon Ndubuisi Obijiofor on thursday confirmed the report;

“This is to inform the general public of the unfortunate kidnap incident that took place along Enugwu-Agidi/ Nawgu road on the 28 October 2020, by 6:25pm.

“The kidnap victim goes by the name Prof Silvia Okonkwo of Uruokwe village, Enugwu-Ukwu, a lecturer with the Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State, who left for Awka, after having a senate meeting with her colleagues in the school, unfortunately her movement was cut short by the activities of the kidnappers” .

Hon Obijiofor however, noted that this was the second time a lecturer have fallen a victim of the notorious kidnappers on the same spot.

He stressed that the particular spot where the incident took place was highly deplorable, making the constant users of the road more vulnerable to the kidnappers.

While calling on the general public to desist from plying that route as from 6:30pm because of the security threats, he said however that strategies are being put in place by the community to beef up security around the area.

The president general also urged the state government to come to their aid by repairing the road, to facilitate easy movement of vehicles along the road for to prevent such ugly incidences.
