The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has alerted the general public, especially aspirants for the December 18 local government and councillorship elections that a fraudulent syndicate has devised means to defraud them, using the commission’s name.
In a release in Umuahia on Thursday October 29, by Prof Mkpa Agu Mkpa, Chairman of ABSIEC ,the electoral umpire revealed that some criminals, masquerading as officials of the commission had created fake online and bank details where unsuspecting aspirants were being asked to pay in huge amount of money .
Prof Mkpa added that such information did not emanate from his office, but from fraudsters. He urged the general public to take note of the development.
The ABSIEC Chairman maintained that the only place to obtain genuine information about payments or related issues were from the accounts department of ABSIEC in Umuahia.
Recall that the Abia State Electoral Commission had fixed nomination fees for chairmanship and councillorship positions at N400,000 and N100,000 respectively
