In what is now seen as an unending cult war, at least three men were gunned down on Wednesday afternoon across different locations in Awka, the Anambra state capital city.

According to report, one was killed at Umubelle village in Awka, while the other two were shut down opposite headquarters of a popular Pentecostal church at Unizik temporary site, Okpuno, both in Awka South local government area.

News Echo gathered that the attackers suspected to be cultists drove in with tricycles where some people were discussing in front of a shop and immediately opened fire while killing two yet to be identified young men.

Confirming, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Anambra state Command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the attack happened within the Unizik temporary site and was carried out by a suspected rival cult group while two men has been arrested in connection with the death, adding that two was arrested in connection to the killings.

“It is an incident that involved a suspected attack by a rival cult group. The victims were rushed to the hospital and confirmed dead by a medical doctor on arrival.

“The Anambra Police Command Operatives have arrested two suspects, in connection with a case of cultism. The suspects, namely Victor Ikechukwu ‘m’ aged 30years and Ifeanyi Uyanne ‘m’ aged 35years were arrested following a shooting incident which occurred on the 7th April 2021, at Tempsite Okpuno, Awka, Anambra State”.

The Police also recovered one tinted Toyota corolla vehicle and one suspected military cap uniform.
“Meanwhile, the combined team of anti-cult operatives and divisional police personnel led by DPO ‘B’ Division Awka is right at the scene. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the perpetrators of this barbaric act,” he said.
