The Imo State Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Nazzy Njoku, has said that the craze for intake of hard substances especially mkpuru mmiri makes some hooligans who are addicted to them go wild, bizarre, acting abnormally to the point of stealing, raping and violating helpless girls and women with guns and other dangerous weapons.
He made the comment while speaking during a- one day town hall meeting which has “National Security Sensitization and Reorientation Program against Social Vices” as theme, held on Wednesday at Government Secondary School Owerri, organized by the National Orientation Agency, Imo State.
Njoku hinted that the program was organized by the agency to help sensitise people of the importance of security, human rights protection, preservation and the evil effect of intake of hard drugs, saying the agency reminded the Police, the Correctional Services (prisons), the NDLEA, the Civil Defense, the Youth (under NYCN) including Human Rights Commission, International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Alliance for Africa-Curbing Violence Against Women and Girls, traditional rulers, president generals, women leaders and other relevant stakeholders who spoke to educate their communities, families and employees and fellow officers on the benefit of good behavior and freedom for all humans.
According to the state Director, “we are able to sensitise the stakeholders who will now sensitise their people against violence and crime at home so that they will refrain from illicit act. The increase in intake of hard drug such as mkpuru mmiri heightens insecurity. Social vices: thuggery, rape, violence against women, abuse, human trafficking and terrorism are committed on influence of drugs.
Craze for mkpuru mmiri makes hoodlums act bizarre and wild. The society will be better when drug abuse which leads to violence against females and crimes is curbed and all hands should be on deck to achieve a tranquil and comfort blooming society”.
Njoku who noted that the federal government has provided a lot of empowerment opportunities to help curb violence such as NPower, National Social Investment Program, Cash Transfer, Home Grown Feeding Scheme among others, advised youths to shun drug abuse, crime and violence, but engage in productive activities to become economically stable while living godly and comfortably.
