Chairman, Imo State Chapter of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Amb. Hon. Willie TC Okolieogwo, has berated the claims made by the 2018 Imo State ALGON Members for adopting the PDP guber candidate other than the APC candidate, Senator Hope Uzodimma, (CON, GSSRS) in the November 11 2023 election.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, on Monday, Okolieogwo said the group are quite confused about their choice of gubernatorial candidate in the forthcoming poll in Imo State, hence their unmerited endorsement
He rather urged the “public to disregard their claims, saying they have no political relevance nor capacities to deliver their so-called endorsed candidate” who he pitied for “losing membership to the APC popular choice given to his leadership acumen and political sagacity”.
The ALGON Chairman stated that the same people who endorsed the PDP governorship candidate were the same sacked Local Government Chairmen, Vice Chairmen and Councillors who endorsed the AA guber candidate in the 2019 governorship election who later failed woefully in the general election.
He noted that a lot of progress has been made at the rural communities of Imo State by Shared Prosperity led government championed by Governor Hope Uzodimma since the APC took over governance in the state.
He stressed that since Governor Hope Uzodimma came into office, the local government areas of Imo State have made tremendous economical, social, infrastructural, cultural and educational progress, affirming that many local government areas today are wearing good looks given to massive road construction, rehabilitation, supply of electricity, rehabilitation, building and equipping of hospitals, renovation of dilapidated school buildings, provisions of educational materials, periodic retraining of teachers and over 10,000 employment of primary school teachers, among other numerous laudable achievements which he added are encouraging commercial activities and enhancing development, peace and security at the rural areas.
“The revival of the largest palm plantation in West Africa: Adapalm Oil Company, the reinstatement of sacked workers of Imo Palm Plantation by the Rescue Mission led regime, including the payment of their backlog salaries by the 3R led government, the attraction of Federal Polytechnic Nekede Second Campus at Egbema, Ohaji/Egbema LGA, the Dredging of Oguta/Orashi River to link the Atlantic Ocean for improved hitch – free global trade among other gains by Uzodimma led government are milestones which are encouraging commercial activities and social comfort in the state”, Okolieogwo hinted.
Describing Uzodimma as a good leader and a God-sent, the ALGON Chairman appealed to the good spirited people of Imo State and visitors to continue to give their maximum support to the 3R led administration so that good governance and purposeful leadership would be consolidated for enhanced goodness, peace and security in all parts of Imo State.
