The Imo state University IMSU is set to hold its 8th Convocation ceremony as First Degree, post graduate s, Diploma, Masters and PhD students who completed their academic programmes from 2014 till date would be graduating formally from the institution.
Speaking with newsmen at a pre-convocation press briefing held at the Institution in Owerri, the Vice chancellor prof. Uchefula Ugonna Chukwumaeze disclosed that the school is rated one of the best in the country since it’s inception over 30 years ago nd has produced students who are performing in various positions and sectors all over the world.
According to the VC, the institution has competed tutorial staff who impacts knowledge on the students who pass through the institution.
He noted that the institution will be graduating 30 First class students, and more than 5,000 students who pass through the institution from 2014 – date during the convocation and will be awarding honourary Doctorate to 3 outstanding Nigerians and the decoration of the Imo state governor Senator Hope Uzodinma as well as the pro chancellor of the institution.
He explained that only those found worthy in learning and character will be graduating while those who could not meet up to the standard will be suspended.
The vice chancellor Said, the convocation will afford the institution and the management the opportunity to access the performance of the institution in the past and come up with templates for further growth and development of the institution.
Speaking on some of the achievements recorded since he assumed office prof Chukwumaeze disclosed that the management has been able to manage the resources at its disposal to develop the school.
Among the achievements includes infrastructural and staff development.
The VC maintained that the institution has renovated some Class rooms, received approval of construction of 7 kilometres road by FERMA, restored the accreditation of Faculty of medicine amonst others.
The vice chancellor also promised to commence the construction of Faculty of Engineering and Agriculture, also a befitting art gallery for Department of Fine/Applied Arts and to commence IMSU press.
He also disclosed that the institution has ensured the prompt release of semester results at least 8 weeks after the intake of the exams.
According to the VC, the institution has zero tolerance for cultism and indiscipline for both staff and students.
The VC also encouraged the students to lodge their complaints through the institution Email address as they will be addressed appropriately.
On the news of school fees increment making rounds, He described the rumour as false stating that the Registra lacks the capacity to increase school fees, stressing that it’s the state government and the school Council that has the authority to do so and urged everyone to discard the news as fake.
