Imo State Executive Council has approved the immediate construction of a new abattoir at Naze, Owerri West Local Government Area, at the tune of three hundred and fourty eight million naira (N348,000,000).
This was part of the outcome of the state executive council meeting held Wednesday at the new Executive Council Chambers, Imo State Government House, Owerri, as communicated to government house correspondents by the state Commissioner for Information, Declan Emelumba.
He said council approved that construction of the abattoir should take immediate effect, so the one at Egbu which has been found to be unfit for the slaughtering of animals for human consumption could be immediately closed, while butchers are relocated to temporary sites as construction of the new one continues.
Other resolutions of the council as communicated to government house correspondents by the information commissioner included; Construction of Ogwoghoroanya-Umuariam-Avutu Road which leads to the country home of former governor of old Imo State, Dee Sam Mbakee, as part of effort to continue honoring his memories for the unparalleled leadership services he rendered to the state during his time as governor of old Imo State.
Also, according to the commissioner, council hosted one of the Super Falcons contingents to the African Women Nations Cup in Morroco, France-based Chiamaka Nnadozie, who he said, came to appreciate the governor for the good works he was doing in the state, especially the dualization of Owerri-Orlu Road which made her feel like she was still in Europe while commuting on the road.
According to the commissioner, “she was full of gratitude to the governor for the wonderful road works she has been witnessing each time she comes around. She said she knew the state of the roads before she travelled and as she came back now, she couldn’t recognize them anymore “.
The commissioner disclosed that there were six girls of Imo State in the country’s female football team who participated in the tournament in Morroco and the governor approved the sum of five million naira (N5,000,000) for each of them, as appreciation for their exploit and for being good ambassadors of the state.
