Ikwuano leaders lament bad condition of Ikot-Ekpene/Umuahia Road, Storm constructor’s office

Community leaders and stakeholders in Ikwuano LGA led by Dr Anyadiegwu Charles Uzondu, President-General of IDU-F; Dr Monday Ubani; Chief Charles Ugboajah and others on Thursday stormed the project office of Hartland Construction Company Limited to register their protest of the deplorable condition of the 49 kilometres Umuahia-Ikwuano-Ikot Ekpene Road.

The community leaders who lament that work is stagnant on the road since the contract was awarded in May 2019 at a cost of N13.2 billion. Dr Ubani speaking at the project office of Hartland Construction Company expressed worry over the slow pace of work while the condition of the road continues to deteriorate. He regretted that the road, which serves as a major economic access point linking the State to Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Cross River and on to the Cameroon had completely collapsed. He further added that the deplorable condition of the road posed a serious challenge to evacuation of farm produce from the area.
