Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to provide more affordable residential houses in the State, saying the increasing cost of house rent in Enugu is worrisome.
Ugwuanyi who spoke through his Commissioner for Information, Chidi Aroh, said that the influx of people into the state has skyrocketed the cost of house rent in Enugu metropolis and its environs. He said that the state government has begun partnering with private companies to provide more affordable residential houses.

Speaking after inspecting the level of development at HELIU Estate along Port Harcourt Expressway, Enugu, the Commissioner for Information told reporters that the state government had partnered with developers to provide houses, such as, Elim, Akpoga, Jedidia, Diamond, Legacy and many others, to provide affordable houses to Enugu residents.

Aroh said that the government was committed to building a better developed modern city, assuring that the present administration would provide affordable residential houses to Enugu residents before its end in 2023.
Earlier, the State Commissioner for Housing, Enugu State, Vitus Okechi, commended FIT group, charged with responsibility of developing HELIU Estate, for complying with the state government MoU in providing standard and affordable houses to people of the State.
The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Greg Nnaji, also expressed satisfaction with the level of work at HELIU Estate, stressing that the state government had embarked on urban renewal for economic development.

“Urban renewal strategy all over the world is an essential tool for economic development, especially in building a modern city like Enugu.
“The partnership we have seen and have in Enugu at HELIU Estate is a typical example of partnership that works. We have gone round starting from the borehole development which will produce 1million gallons of water capacity daily after completion.
“We are impressed with the size and technicalities. We are now asking that at the completion of it, we will like to be part of accessing the water. We also see elaborated terrain formation which is suitable for any kind of structure.

“We have also seen the landscape grading, scope, elevation of the roads and it’s essentially working to maintain the natural terrain of this environment. This is typical of what we see in most developed cities all over the world”, he said.
Also, speaking, the Chief Executive Officer of FIT group developing HELIU Estate, Loretta Aniagolu, said that HELIU Estate is of international standard. Aniagolu, who disclosed that the delivery of the estate would delay considering their traditional system of construction to meet international standards, assuring that the estate would be completed at the end of 2023.
