Imo unity prayer and praise convention, the second edition of IMO PRAYS, organized by the state chapter of Christian Association of Nigeria CAN, was held in Owerri on Tuesday with the theme ” Oh God our help in ages past”.
The interdenominational prayer convention which was held to foster peace , unity and prosperity in the state, was attended by people from all walks of life.
Speaking at the occasion, the Imo state Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, commended CAN for organizing the prayer Programme at a time which he observed was timely in view of recent events that engulfed the state and how the state came out of it through God’s intervention.
The Governor noted that prayer is the key and should be utilized in whatever situation people find themselves, in times of jubilation, celebration or agony.
He recalled that a similar convention was held last year at the height of the security challenges in the state , and in the midst of the period where Hope was almost lost, the various church leaders arose and prayed and God answered.
Gov. Uzodimma enjoined Imo citizens not to lose hope or give up because according to him” it is evident that God has taken over the battle.”
God has been fair to us, he has been there for us. In good times , in the times when it was difficult, and challenging, he has been there and is there for us.
There is evidence everywhere to show Almighty God is in Imo state,” Uzodimma said.
The Governor noted that two years ago the state didn’t have this kind of environment, or atmosphere being enjoyed today, noting that when we were challenged ,we didn’t go retaliating , we didn’t say we were able to stop the problems, we put our knees to the ground and prayed, God answered us and today Imo state is free, Imo state is free, ” He emphasized.
The Governor assured that his Government will continue to partner the Church as it was a God fearing administration.
He stated that there was no accommodation for Satan in the state , he had no business with bloodletting, with those killing and punishing innocent citizens because they are looking for power , stressing that power belongs to God.
The event featured intercessory prayers for the state, nation, Religious and Political leaders at various levels, youths, for peace and prosperity in the land, against all forms of criminality and evil in the land.
There was praise sessions led by gospel artistes such as Mercy Chinwo, Toneil Ayo, Minister Ale, and choir ministration by CAN and Government House Chapel choirs.
Guest Speakers at the convention were His Grace Most Reverend Dr. Lucius Ugorji, Archbishop Owerri Catholic Ecclesiastical Archdiocese and Bishop Maxwell Korie, the Southern CAN Chairman, and General Overseer of Lifeline Chapel.
Highpoint of the programme was the presentation of a Holy Bible to Gov. Uzodimma and prayers for his family.
