Barely 48 hours after Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu’s interview with Channels Television, where he expressed support for Owerri zone governorship bid in the forthcoming elections, he has in sharp swift affirmed his support for the incumbent governor Uzodimma’s second term bid stressing via a letter made public that the Charter of Equity of Imo Governorship Position among the three Senatorial Zones of the state namely Okigwe, Owerri and Orlu, unanimously reached by the Council of Elders, he has affirmed his support to Governor Hope Uzodimma for Second term.
In the letter, the revered elder statesman, Chief Iwuanyanwu. posited that he supported that Orlu Zone should be allowed to complete the next four years because Uzodimma has performed wonderfully especially in the areas of road construction and rehabilitation, the dredging of Oguta Lake to a Seaport, the conversion of Federal Medical Center Owerri to a Federal University Teaching Hospital and the upgrading of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education to a Federal University of Education among others.
He stated this in a statement he personally signed and made available to the media on Sunday in Owerri.
Iwuanyanwu affirmed that “I support the charter of Equity which gives opportunity to all parts of Imo State to have access to the highest political position of the state. I attended a meeting of Imo State Council of Elders in Owerri held on Thursday 13th of April. At this meeting, the report of the committee set up in respect of Governorship zoning for formula was presented”.
“To the best of my knowledge, the Council of Elders unanimously resolved to adopt the report. It was resolved that each zone should hold the position of Governorship for a period of eight years. Orlu Zone is currently occupying the position of Governorship and will soon complete the first four years. The council resolved that Orlu should be allowed to complete the next four years and thereafter handover to Owerri Zone for another eight years – at the end of eight years by Owerri Zone, Okigwe Zone will take over for another eight years”, he maintained.
He stressed that “I hereby confirm that I attended the meeting of Council of Elders and I voted in support of the report. I also wish to express my support for the Council of Elders to acclaim the achievements of His Excellency, Senator Hope Uzodimma’s administration in many areas including massive infrastructural development including roads, the conversion of Federal Medical Centre Owerri to a Federal Teaching Hospital, the upgrading of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education to a Federal University of Education, the dredging of Oguta Lake to serve as a Seaport”.
