Get your PVC’s, Ohaneze charges Igbos in Rivers.

The Ohaneze Ndigbo in Rivers State has called on its members to ensure they register for their permanent voter cards so as to actively participate in the 2023 general elections.

Youth leader of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, Rivers State Chapter, Mazi Prince Gift Amadi gave the advice while speaking with News echo on the experience of the Igbos in the State.

Mazi Prince Gift Amadi described the Ohaneze Ndigbo as a non political Organization that is interested in the welfare of its members.

The youth leader explained that the Igbos will support any Governorship candidate from any political party that will not discriminate against the Igbos.

He said Igbos in Rivers State will only support any aspirant that will protect the rights and businesses of the Igbos in Rivers State.

Cabinet dissolution: Rivers APC berates Governor Wike.

The All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has said the dissolution of the cabinet by the state Governor, Nyesom Wike did not come to them as a surprise. The Publicity Secretary of APC in the state Chris finebone in statement said any keen observer of Governor Wike’s brick and mortar style of governance should always expect him to exhibit preference for self interest above common good. Finebone said Wike started by disengaging the sanitation authorities without replacement an action that has turned Port Harcourt into the refuse-garbage capital of Nigeria.

The statement said while the party is burdened by the stench in Port Harcourt, the governor decided to dissolve his cabinet and send his appointees home at a critical time when his governance deficit has become the order of the day in the State. He said they are not surprised because the governor places high premium on politics over governance. Finebone said they will not call him an accidental governor for nothing but that his latest action is to enable him raise a new army of supporters out of the aggrieved followers occasioned by his politics of imposition.

Gunshots at Rivers APC secretariat leave several injured.

Some party faithful including journalists have been injured after gunshots rent air at the Rivers State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress. News echo gathered that trouble started after some members who were aggrieved at the manner the leadership of the party was handling the party primaries attempted to forcefully open the gate. Attempts by the aggrieved and protesting members were met with resistance from the police men attached to gate of party secretariat who shot to scare them.

The situation got worse after some suspected party urchins hijacked the process, leading to exchange of gunshots and free use of dangerous weapons. The situation made journalists and other stakeholders to scamper for safety, which led to injuries. One of the journalist told News echo that he clothes were completely torn while some of his items were stolen. We gathered that the protesting party members who are believed to be loyal to one of the governorship aspirants, senator Magnus Abe are alleging that the process of the party primaries have been hijacked by some people.
Meanwhile, the APC in Rivers State says they are yet to understand the group that protested and the purpose of the protest at the state party secretariat.

The State Publicity Secretary of APC, Chris Finebone said the party congress is holding at the various wards and local government Areas of the state and not at the secretariat. Finebone said materials for the congresses have also been sent to the various wards and local government Areas were the exercise will be conducted. He however promised that the party executive will address those that gathered at the party secretariat when they identify with their leaders.

Meanwhile, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka has dismissed insinuation that somebody died during the protest at the APC secretariat in Port Harcourt. CP Eboka who dismissed the rumour after visiting the APC secretariat told News echo that the authors of the report are mischief-makers. He said his men discharge their duties professionally. He further warned that anyone fomenting crisis ahead of the 2023 general elections including their sponsors will be arrested and prosecuted. He also assured members of the public that the command will intensify its efforts in protecting lives and properties in the State.

Police denies killing youth in Rivers State

The Rivers State Police Command has dismissed reports that it personnel shot dead a youth in Onne Community in Eleme Local Government Area of the State identified as Victor Amasi during an Onne Youth Council election in the area.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko who spoke to News echo in reaction to the killing said while the police was yet to get any report about any dead, said the police never shut anyone in Onne during the election.

Iringe-Koko who is of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police said the Onne Youths were fighting themselves in presence of security agencies including, personnel of Department of Security Service, Military personal and the Police. He added that it was wrong for anyone to accuse the police when there were other security agencies present.

Ooni of Ife hails Amaechi leadership qualities.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan-Ogunwusi has hailed the leadership qualities of Presidential Aspirant the All Progressives Congress, Rotimi Amaechi, praying God’s guidance and blessings upon him as he seeks the highest office in Nigeria. Oba Enitan-Ogunwusi made the commendation and prayers when the Minister of Transportation paid him a consultation visit at his Palace in Ile Ife where he insisted that looking at Amaechi’s history, for the last twenty-three years he has actually gone through the rank and file.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba maintained that Amaechi has found favour in the sight of God saying that with the activities of the APC leader in Rivers State, it can be said that he has the interest of this country at heart. Earlier in his speech, the Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi while stating the reason for his visit, promise that if given the opportunity to govern the country, he will ensure that both the rich and the poor have a space, knowing that he belongs to the two sides. Amaechi also proposed a review of legislation to give more relevance to the traditional institution if given the opportunity to serve as Nigeria’s President.

Accident along Port Harcourt-Aba road kills 8

Rivers State Police Command has assured the general public that it will investigate the actual cause of the accident that claimed the lives of occupants of a commercial bus along Port Harcourt-Aba express way.

The assurance came following an accident that claimed about eighteen passengers on board in a commercial bus along Port Harcourt-Aba express way.

A source who comfirmed the accident to News Echo said the accident which occured immediately after Intel’s company on Aba road explained that the bus ran into a truck loaded with woods which had been parked for over three days.

The source said the victims of the accident could not be recognized as Police personal who first visited the scene made frantic efforts to reach out to the respective families through their mobile phones.

The spokesperson of Federal Road Safety Corps, confirm that personnel of the corps have visited the scene but are yet to report back to ascentain the actual number of casualties and cause.

He promised to get back to our Correspondent on the latest development on the incident.

Police nabs 3 baby thieves and kidnapper in Rivers

Rivers State Police Command has paraded three women, Favour Ajuzie, Chioma Chibuike and Comfort Abatuo who allegedly stole two babies identified as Favour Boniface and Miracle Boniface over two years ago.

The command also paraded one Adamu Siraju who is involved in using military uniform and G3 rifle to rob his victims and Osagie Igienhon Aka General who allegedly kidnapped one Ekuchie Ogbonna in December, 2021 at Oyigbo area of the state

Rivers state Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka who paraded the suspects said Policemen on patrol around oil mill market by Eleme Junction stopped a tricycle and recovered locally made pistol from Usman Suleiman and Iliyasu Musa who are eighteen years of age.

CP also disclosed that Austin Asomeji, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Emohua Local Government Area who was kidnapped on the 8th of February, 2022 along NTA road, Apara link road has been rescued and his saloon car recovered, the suspects Barisitam Nbianee and Miracle Victor arrested. The CP assured that those arrested will be charged to court at the end of investigation.

Your achievements are commendable – Wike to Anglican Church

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has commended the Anglican Communion, Diocese of the Niger Delta North for following the path of entrepreneurial development in the state.

Governor Wike said the Diocesan new vibrancy and energy in the areas of education, evangelism and entrepreneurship are worth emulating by other Bishops and dioceses around the country.

Wike who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tammy Danagogo, gave the commendation at the dedication and commissioning ceremony of the Church of Nigeria, Diocese of Niger Delta North Table water factory which was dedicated by His Grace, the Most Reverend Henry C. Ndukuba at Rumuigbo, Obio/Akpor area.

The Governor regretted that the educational system in the country was not properly tailored to empower the students with entrepreneurship skills, adding that this has resulted in the sea of unemployed youths now besieging the nation.

Earlier, the Bishop, Diocese of Niger Delta North, His Lordship, Reverend, Wisdom Budu-Ihunwo, said the Diocese is following the principles of the Lord Jesus Christ in enhancing the fortunes of the diocese and to occupy until He comes.

The cleric also thanked the Governor for his magnanimity and contributions to the establishment of the water factory during the 2019 Synod Thanksgiving service in Port Harcourt.

Man electrocuted trying to steal cable.

A young man who was suspected to be a criminal has died while trying to steal from a transformer within the premises of Judiciary quarter in Choba community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A source within the area who confirmed the incident to News Echo said they woke up on Thursday morning to discover the man lying lifeless with parts of his body electrocuted.

Power holding was reported to have restored power when the young man attempted to steal the transformer armoured cable which led to his death.

Men of Nigerian police have been contacted but were yet to visit the scene of the incident as at the time of the filing this report.

Rivers NANS to protest against ASUU strike

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) in Rivers state has said that it will join other students in the country to protest against the recent shut down of university campuses by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.

Rivers state chapter chairman of the association, Jokiel Chinonso who made this known in an interview with journalists said the protest which is scheduled for the 28th of February will aim at expressing the grievance of students over the manner the Federal government and ASUU have handled their agreement without thinking about the students and their academics.

Chinonso further criticized handlers of the educational sector in the country for being inconsiderate and carrying on with decision that have negative effect on the students.

He said the financial stress of paying for house rents and other expenses incurred during resumption is further compounded during strikes. He also lashed out at the federal government for its failure to keep to the agreements reached with ASUU.

You may wish to know that the 28th of February 2022, the National Association of Nigerian Students across thirty states will be protesting against the continuous strike action by the academic staff union of universities and federal government failures to keep to the agreements.
