The Founder and President of South East Women Initiatives (SEWI), Hon. Amb. Amaka Tessy Okonkwo (Ammy White), says the group empowers, speaks and defends the rights of women in the region so that they live happily, peacefully and prosper like others.

She disclosed this during the inauguration of executive members of SEWI Anambra State Chapter held last week at the Golden Mars Hotel by 17 Gate, Udoka Estate, Awka.

Okwonkwo who is contesting for Onitsha North State Constituency under the platform of APC in the 2023 election, added that the NGO is not only focusing on being the watchdog of women in the South East, but richly encourages them to engage actively into agriculture in order to keep themselves productive and wealthy.

“It was indeed a memorable event as South East Women Initiatives had her one of the remarkable inaugurations of her State, LGAs and Wards executives. South East Women Initiative is an NGO which came into existence in 2020 and still makes waves round South East. The NGO is said to be the mouthpiece and watchdog to the women that have nowhere to lay their heads and whom to run to in trial times”, she noted.

Stressing that SEWI “is also deeply into agricultural development in the state to enable them reach out to the less-privileged in the society with the intent to reducing hunger, poverty and insecurity”, Okonkwo posited that the inauguration was graced by many dignities from Anambra State.

She urged the executive members to continue to work in one accord to be able to move the NGO forward and then drive home its objectives of defending rights of women and engaging them meaningfully for a better and healthy society.
