The Uru in Isi Ogwa Autonomous community, Mbaitoli Local Government Area at the weekend elected a new set of executives to run its affairs for the next four years.
The election produced an Enugu based legal practitioner, Barr. Ken Emekowa as the president among other officials. Emekowa was a onetime Secretary-General of the community for eight years and has been in the fore front championing development of the area in various ways.
Others elected to serve with him are Vice President, Mr. Bartholomew Aguocha, Secretary General, Mr. Chidi Onwusaka, Assistant Secretary General, Dr Emeka Anorue, Treasurer, Kelechi Nwudo Smart, Financial Secreatry, Mr. Ogechi Ekwugham, Assistant Financial Secretary, Zebulon Osuajoku, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chidiebere Okeregbe, Provost, Chidi Ofoegbu and Assistant Provost, Obiakor Onugha
The election was conducted by Chief Charles Nwaiwu (Asiakponu), a former president and prominent elder of the community alongside returning officers viz Hon Ben Emekowa, Evangelist Raphael Onwusaka, and Chidi Onwusaka. The election which was peacefully conducted elicited excitement among the residents as they look forward to a new dawn in the community.
The highlight was the use of Babangida’s option A4 to elect the president which put paid to any form of irregularity that may have arisen. The out gone president, Kenneth Ugochukwu Etumni had earlier reeled out his achievements wished the incoming government well.
In his acceptance speech, Barr. Emekowa described the election as the election as the will of God promising that ‘I will move Uru forward and correct all the irregularities in our community. I will complete the hall project before the end of our first tenure’’
He promised to work with the age grades, branches, and activate the home branch structure which he described as critical to the success of his administration even as he called for the support of all and sundry.
Earlier the electoral umpire, Chief Nwaiwu had advised the community members to support the new government adding that if you deny them responsible followership you will not get the desired result. In like manner, he advised the officers not create problems for themselves stating that the pervading joy that characterized the election should be allowed to prevail throughout their tenure
